The Greek God Dionysus painted in a guesthouse in Bangkok, next to Khao San, and brought to another guesthouse, the Holy Sheet Hostel.
It represents the craziness, the different mindset than the one we can have usually, the Chaos, the Unknown, a wise elephant from Pai, in the North of Thailand, with magic mushrooms growing from the poop, a grape for the wine (even if I'm not a big drinker), a panthera next to a tree, and some greek letters as I used to study ancient greek and enjoyed so much at this time talking about the mythology. The Jungle behind reminds me the crazy forest from Pai.
Some would call it the right side of the brain.
For me, the only relevant left wings and right wings are between Apollo and Dionysus and this struggle can only be individual, and not collective. This is way too much of a shortcut, therefore idiot, to start categorising ourselves inside a political spectrum to then spend our life to try to convince the others that seem to be in the wrong side of the Truth, or what we would like to be the Truth. I'm not a fan of becoming slave of my own ideology. And people who do that, like my former boss telling me on the phone that one of the students must vote this leftwing guy from the French Presidential elections like this is a bad thing I should nod in order to lick properly his ass, are pretty stupid.
I can't say if this Dionysus is mixed with a sort of self portrait. It's true that Pai changed me and made me discover some demons I was unaware of. Too much truth seems to be never good to tell, especially when the Truth itself differs from what people would like to hear.
As an atheist, I still like to use metaphors coming from different mythologies. And for me a religion doesn't differ from a mythology, whatever people would tell me trying to sound like smart that it comes from the latin religare that means linking us. In that case, I can say proudly that Dionysus influenced me in Pai and helped me to make friends as much as enemies because of the excentricity, and the will to open my mouth when seeing unfair things instead of thinking "this is not my business". For example, warning my English Host that his girlfriend from Issan was cheating on him with the ex boyfriend, as the Iranian guy I met told me "She is the girlfriend of my friend" (which made me react this way "No... she is the girlfriend of MY friend"... "Ok... in the name of the Truth I need to tell him", especially when the guy I meet tells me that she told her boyfriend she will spy on the business of my host, to then give him informations.
Oh, and Dionysus loves to laugh. People have tendency to take themselves too seriously, like scared that some people would talk badly about them behind their back.
Maybe Dionysus doesn't care enough. And then the reputation of the crazy guy may follow you for the Best and the Worst.
